The 2024 EXGP British EX Championship reached it’s epic conclusion at the stunning Greenfield Dirt Track in Lincolnshire.
Perviously the Championship had visited Portland in Dorset and LDR in Gloucestershire and now the riders were taking on a new adventure at Greenfield with the Round being part of the Electric Dirt Bike Festival.
In the Oset 12.5 class Tommy Ashmore continued from where he left off, rattling off six stunning victories to win round 3 and take the title with it. Walter Shingler-Hulme once again rode his socks off for second on the day and in the series while the battling Eden Davies made it a pair of threes with third for the weekend and in the championship. Well done guys. Jenson Wood kept it pinned for fourth in the Round, Hunter Brierley was fifth, Chace Dunstan was sixth and Coby Dunstan was seventh. Great racing from all of these little racers.
The Mini E class is always action packed and the series finale was no exception with twists, turns, heroics and more in this dramatic couple of days of racing. These racers had to take on two qualifying heats each day, which would define if they were to be in the B or A final.
Charlie Needs put the hammer down to take the Saturday A Final victory ahead of Cooper Dunstan and Grayson-Blake Martin while on Sunday Aliyas Westwick would ride a stormer to take the chequers ahead of the hard charging Albie Dallas in second and Dunstan again at the sharp end in third. Drama was to befall Needs who would go down hard, and having to dig deep to finish the moto down in twelfth.
With two solid results the Round 3 victory would go the way of Cooper ahead of Aliyas in second with Albie just edging out Grayson for third. Parker Herbert would finish the weekend in fifth with Charlie in sixth.
Going into Sunday’s final the points were super tight between Charlie and Albie but with Charlie suffering his fall and Albie having a fantastic ride the title would go the way of Albie who had put in some fantastic rides throughout the championship. Charlie would end the series in second with Grayson making it onto the box in third.
The Auto E3 class has grown massively this year and one rider who has grown in stature with it is Kaylum Clark who won both finals to take the Championship with just one point dropped all season long. His biggest rival was again Hunter Dunstan who kept it on the gas, making sure Kaylum couldn’t relax at any point. Hunter would take second on the day and in the championship with some great riding. Making it onto the Greenfield podium with some superb riding was the 2024 EXGB Indoor champ Harley Patel, Eli Walton impressed with fourth, Aurora Young secured fifth which was enough for her to finish an exceptional third in the Championship, while Jonah Barks had some great riders in a stacked field for sixth.
Leo Golding was a racer on a mission in the Auto E5 category and he would end the weekend with the number one spot for the round with victories in both finals. Mini E indoor champ Oakley Jones had a tough weekend, falling when in second on Saturday, but Oakley is made of tough stuff and he fought back for second in Sunday’s final for second over the weekend which was enough to secure him the 2024 EXGP Mini E title.
Well done Oakley! Ethan Kentch had a great comeback to EXGB racing with third, Alfie James has shown huge improvements this year and secured an excellent fourth in a talent packed line up which would land him an awesome second in the championship. Fifth over the weekend was Carson Robinson with Jake Leonard in sixth and Joel Leonard in seventh. Although he didn’t ride at Greenfield Raife Western bagged third place in the Championship.
On Saturday evening it was the adult’s turn to strut their stuff on the Greenfield track with plenty of Dads getting in on the action. The EXGP class sponsored by Moto101 saw outstanding action with the Stark Vargs dominating proceedings.
Louie Brooks was the stand out rider and stormed to three wins from three for the title with a silky smooth display, but he couldn’t back off as Luke Mellows on the Moto101 machine kept it pinned in each race for second overall. Joe Golding was another racer to rattle off some good results on the Moto101 provided Stark for third and a step on the podium. James Benson was fourth, Lewis Bryant was fifth, and Craig Turnball was sixth with all of these riders with the exception of Louie being Dads of riders who raced in the kids classes. Former GP rider and our commentator Jeff Perrett had two impressive motos finishing 3rd and 4th but bowed out of the final moto but still ended the day with seventh overall.
In the EX2 class for the lighter, Sur-ron, Talaria and RFN machines it was Jayden Wood who took the race one win ahead of Terry Marchant and Kyle Masters in a dramatic race where two early leaders Matthew Roberts and Lewis Cooling both had issues. In the second and final race Roberts put in an epic comeback ride to steal victory after a phenomenal last lap dash. Race one winner Wood would have a big crash early in the race, but he stuck at it with bent bars, and a great example to the kids watching on how never to give up. Behind Roberts, Marchant would come home in second and with a 2-2 scorecard he would take home the title. Dee Patel finished third in the race and would edge out Masters for the number 2 spot in the Championship.
Great racing guys with once again nearly all of these riders having children racing which gave the kids a nice change to be able to cheer on their parents.
Huge thanks must go to Moto101 for sponsoring the EXGP class and supplying Stark Vargs to six riders to race.
EXGB would like to say a huge thank you to George Pickering and the team at Greenfield for welcoming us to their fantastic venue, the EXGB team for all of their hard work and, of course, all of the riders and their families and friends for making it such a memorable weekend.
