This past weekend the EXGB crew travelled to the beautiful North West and the awesome Cumbria Moto Park for their ‘Chicken Run’ Electric Balance Bike event and it was very worthwhile trip, with the kids and parents having a great weekend with lots of smiles and laughter and escaping the ‘four seasons in one day’ weather outside.
With eight races for each class over the two days, all the classes from the 12 inch 3 years of age all the way up to the 20 inch 11-14 saw all the young and eager racers have plenty of track time at the brilliant indoor facility and there was some fantastic and close racing across all classes, which added to the feel good atmosphere. There was also a race of a different kind, a race to find Easter Eggs in Sunday morning’s ‘Chicken Run Easter Egg Hunt’ which was a popular addition to the event with every child racing receiving a treat and getting them all warmed up for their second day of racing. And of course, as per every EXGB event, each and every child went home with a medal and the top three in each class received Ducksmart products and gift vouchers from Armor Vision. And of course not forgetting the continued support EXGB receive from Revvi to help run our events.
In the 12” 3 years of age class Ovie Roy Tasker dominated the weekend taking seven race wins out of eight. Ace Songhurst made the trip all the way from Jersey worthwhile coming in second, while Conrad Hall didn’t have to travel far to round out the podium in third, as dad Greg is the owner of Cumbria Moto Park.
Zach Bell clean swept the 16” 3-4 class with style romping to victory in all eight races ahead of ‘the battle of Leo’s’, which was eventually won by Leo Dugmore coming in second ahead of Leo Salt as the pair traded blows for the remaining podium positions.
The 16” 4-5 class was won by Bobby Pigg, winning all but one of his overall points scoring races. He was beaten in that one race by Wesley Wilson who finished the weekend second overall. After some early technical problems with his bike Albie Roberts Birchall rounded out the podium in third.
The 16” 6-7 was really competitive with four different race winners over the weekend and plenty of race position changes. In the end it was Richard Mason taking the overall win with four of the eight overall points scoring race wins, all coming on the first day. Ethan Rudd finished the weekend strong winning the last two races for second overall with Blake Coates coming in third taking a win in race six.
Cooper Darlington was one of many riders racing multiple classes and jumped from the 16” wheels to the 18” with good effect, winning the 18” 5-7 year class in convincing fashion with three out of six points scoring overall race wins. Christopher Garcia was consistent all weekend and one of four race winners to bring it home in second, ahead of Arlo Tordoff who also picked up a race win along the way.
In the 18” 8-10 class Adam Bell took the overall victory after a weekend long battle with Frankie Arnold for the overall. In the end if was Adam’s five race wins to Frankie’s three that sealed the deal for the top of the podium. Izzy Turnbull also battled hard all weekend to take the final step on the podium.
The 20” 7-10 class presented by Amped was completely dominated by Seb Birchall, powering to all eight race wins by a healthy margin. Second went to Monty Leary who’s consistency with six second place finishes reflected in his overall result. Frankie Arnold came in third after quick bike changes from his 18” races.
There was only two riders in the 20” 11-14 class, but all eight races were tight and exciting. Olivia Mason dominated, winning seven of the races and riding amazing under pressure from Billy Thompson who refused to throw in the towel and was eventually rewarded for his efforts by taking the final race win of the weekend.
The next event for the EXGB team is the first of two ‘Revvi Rumble’ open practice days at SX Worx, Sheffield, on Saturday 25th April, then it’s back to racing and the second round of the ‘E-Bee All Stars’ championship at Portland, Dorset on the 30/31st May.
