New dawn in Devon! EXGP British Electric X Championships Round 1 & 2 – Race Report & Results

EXGB descended on the brilliant Wheeldon Off-Road Centre over the weekend of the 3rd and 4th of June as they hosted the first two rounds of their inaugural EXGP British Electric X Championship.

Eight racers duked it out in the Adult classes and once again it was the British Indoor EX Champion Sam Winterburn from the PCR E Performance Sur Ron Factory Racing team who was the dominant force winning both rounds with maximum points. Winterburn didn’t have it easy as the Indoor Lites Mod Champ Isaac Ash on his new Revmonkey Sur Ron made him work hard for the victories.

Ash would suffer a mechanical issue on Saturday which kept him off the box at Round 1 with Pierre Nakhla on the Volt MX sponsored ride taking the number two spot with John Gill riding well to finish third. Ash would claim fourth ahead of another PCR E Performance Sur Ron racer Chloe Richardson with the Fast and Female rider Beanie Reece in sixth. In the EX Lites Stock class Lewis Bryant got the job done ahead of Grandpa Bryant (George).

On Sunday Ash would claim the number two spot behind Winterburn with Gill once again third, Richardson was fourth ahead of Nakhla and Reece. Lewis Bryant once again took the win in the EX Lites Stock class.

Our biggest entry of Oset 12.5 racers put on a great show with Oliver Fostun pitching in with four great riders and one race win to take the Round 1 victory ahead of Kaylum Clark who had a great day. Oakley Jones would win three of the four races but bike gremlins halted his chances of the Day one victory so he would have to settle for the number three spot on the podium. Sophia O’Connell was kept off of the box by just one point but rode great for fourth, Louis Good showed some great speed for fifth, Charlie Masters had a busy day and was sixth, Cody Isard was seventh, Harri Fisher was in among the battles in eighth, and Remi Collins made a fantastic first appearance in ninth.

Oakley was on a mission on Sunday and made up for his Saturday DNF by taking all three wins to be crowned the Round 2 champ ahead of Kaylum, with Sophia making onto the podium in third ahead of Oliver in fourth, Louis in fifth, Charlie in sixth and Cody edging out Harri for seventh with some great racing from these two.

The racing in the Mini-E class was epic with a double line up riders all on Oset MX10 machines battling it out for EXGP glory.  With two heats of racers lining up the racers had three point scoring races to decide if they made the A or B Finals. Two riders who certainly weren’t in doubt of qualifying through to the A final were Ethan Kentch and George Hutchings. These two were no strangers to Wheeldon having raced in the Indoor Championship which Ethan would go on to win.

Both riders would start the EXGP series with a clean sheet though and it showed as the battle lines were redrawn and these two went at it hammer and tong in both finals on both days with Ethan edging it on Saturday with George replicating this feat on Sunday after an epic dual which saw both riders swap positions multiple times during the moto. Well done guys. Great racing!

Behind the lead duo in third on Saturday was Joe Johnson who had a superb weekend, Oliver Fostun who rode in the Oset 12’5’s too was fourth, Nancy Good was fifth, Lennie Lowe was sixth, Charlie Masters was seventh and Keyan Parry was eighth. In the B Final Cohen Rogers took the chequers ahead of Devon Bargery.

On Sunday it was Joe again in third, Oliver was fourth, Lennie was an excellent fifth, Cohen showed great improvement over the weekend to finish sixth with Keyan riding well for seventh. The B Final saw Nancy grab the win over Charlie and Devon.

Like the Mini-E class there were two heats of Auto-E riders, and like the Mini-E class there was some outstanding racing throughout.

The Indoor championship in the Auto E class was keenly contested and the Champ Teddy Moore was back as was Indoor Round 4 winner Jesse Barks.

The quali races saw Teddy go through the card while Barks notched up one win to his name, and all eyes were on these two, as well as Hugo Roberts and Kolbe Red Sole as the start tape flew in the final. Jesse got off to a flyer but an opening lap crash for Teddy saw him dead last with some serious work to do. While Teddy was clawing back positions, Jesse was riding smooth and controlled at the front, which was where he would stay until the chequers for a fantastic win.  Behind Jesse, Hugo was having to put the hammer down to keep the hard charging Teddy at bay which he did to finish second with Teddy third just ahead of Kolbe. Frank Wallis ended his day with a great fifth in the final ahead of Samuel Blackler who had a superb day.

In the B Final George Hutchings of Mini-E would take the win ahead of Millie England in second, Max Isard was third Eli Light was fourth and Maximus Hall was fifth but was the top placed E3 rider so he would win that class.  Blu Bishop was sixth and second in the E3’s while Isla Bargery was seventh and the top rider in the Open-E class.

Could Sunday’s final beat Saturday’s??? The answer was a resounding yes.  Once again Jesse made a blinding start, but this time he had Teddy on his back wheel early in the moto.  Jesse seemed to have it under controlled and didn’t put a wheel wrong, but Teddy was eyeing up passing options on the home straight pulled the pin to edge just ahead of Jesse by half a wheel to grab the round two victory ahead of Jesse. Fantastic racing guys!  Kolbe showed great improvmenet to finish the final in third and earning a well deserved place on the podium ahead of Hugo in fourth. Frank was once again fifth, Samuel was sixth, George was seventh ahead of Ethan Kentch who joined in with the E5’s on Sunday.

Millie England took the B Final chequers ahead of Maximus who was again the number one in the E3 and Isla Bargery who was the Open-E winner.

A huge well done to everyone who took part, and to all of the friends and families for creating such a great atmosphere…

Of course we couldn’t do it without our team so massive thanks to them for their hard work over three long days, plus a few either side!

The Wheeldon venue served up some great racing and as always a huge thanks go to Andrew, Jim and Lou for welcoming us to their farm.

A big thanks to our partners Revvi and Duck Smart for their continued support, NORA Motorsport, Monsters of Dirt, and Sur-Ron UK for all of their support with this event also.
